Pilot-cosmonaut Maxim Suraev met with cadets of the Avangard center

A meeting of cadets from the Moscow Region with Hero of the Russian Federation, cosmonaut pilot, deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation was held at the Avangard training and methodological center for military-patriotic education of young People By Maxim Suraev. The event was attended by more than 500 people.

As part of the "Reverse Side of the Star" project, Maxim Suraev shared his life story with the cadets, told them how he found himself in the profession and why he chose activities related to the study and development of outer space.

Students were particularly interested in everyday details of life on the orbital station: how astronauts eat, sleep, and have fun.

"We create our own classes. For example, when you first see the Earth from a porthole, it is an unforgettable sight. Our land is very beautiful, and it is always changing. All continents are beautiful, each in its own way. Caribbean Sea, Caucasus, Australia, Glaciers, Amazon Delta… This is something amazing." the hero said.

The guest spent a total of about a year outside of Earth, worked on the ISS in 2010 and 2014, and went on two spacewalks. Using his example, he told students how important it is to go forward, overcoming any obstacles.

"Every dream, every goal is a superwork. Here it is important to understand that every ordinary person can achieve unusual success. The main thing is to show a desire, find a good mentor and not give up." the cosmonaut addressed the Avangard cadets.

Maxim Suraev is the first Russian cosmonaut who kept his blog while in flight. He showed the guys archive photos taken during the flight.

Director of the Avangard Center Daria Borisova noted that the project "The Reverse side of a Star" is gaining momentum: "This time we introduced cadets to cosmonaut Maxim Suraev, who told the younger generation about how to expand the boundaries of not only space, but also their consciousness. Using the example of the main character, every schoolchild understands that in order to achieve the impossible, it is only necessary to set a goal and make every effort to implement it. The project "The reverse side of the star" just broadcasts the main message to young people – everything is in our hands."
