Premiere of a Theatrical Performance “New Land (Novaya Zemlya)”
A Christmas play “New Land” was first presented on stage of “Avangard” Educational and Methodological Center. The idea to stage it belongs to Ivan Lebedev, a military journalist, a TV-host and a friend of the Center.
The staged performance is an ingenious interpretation of the issue of relationship between parents and their children. The play is set in far-off Novaya Zemlya Islands on New Year’s Eve.
The author introduces the spectators to a recluse San Sanych, former captain of the Northern Fleet, who now is a light keeper on Novaya Zemlya. By some train of events, five youths and a children animator find themselves in San Sanych’s place. They all have escaped in a lifeboat from a cruise ship navigating in the Barentsevo Sea.
As the story goes, all characters are “growing” – the moody San Sanych opens his heart to the children who, in turn, are learning to take responsibility for their actions and to do manly acts.
At the end of the play, we see real valiant “Young Army” trainees rather than the youths they were at the beginning, who are greeting San Sanych by video call.
“New Land” has been highly appreciated by the spectators – the play covers important issues of patriotism, mutual aid and love to other people and to the Fatherland.
