Reverse side of the star: world champion in modern pentathlon, Ekaterina Khuraskina visited the Avangard center

Ekaterina Khuraskina, a world and European champion, senior lieutenant of CSKA, five-time world military champion, became a guest of the Avangard training and methodological center for military-patriotic education of young people.

The athlete spoke about the difficult path to high achievements, recalled how she came to modern pentathlon, how many difficulties she overcame while achieving her first success in one of the most difficult sports.

Modern pentathlon is a unique competition in which the champion becomes the one who performs best in five different sports: fencing, swimming, show jumping, running and shooting. The last two types are combined into one discipline, in other words,"combine".

According to the athlete, it is very difficult to combine all types. Each of them has its own specific training, which requires a high degree of endurance and a level of professional skill.

"I like fencing the most. This is such an unusual and exciting game for me. And "combine" also brings a lot of points. And the rest are unloved. Swimming is very difficult for me, but I didn't have to choose, the coach set tasks, and I did them," said Ekaterina.

She admitted that difficulties harden her and make her move forward, and in sports and life she tries to concentrate on the main thing and achieve results.

"Of course, I had moments when I wanted to give up my sports career, but after a while I would get ready and go back to training. I clearly understood what tasks and goals I was facing, " Ekaterina Khuraskina shared.

The children asked the guest questions about her family, childhood, choosing a mentor, hobbies and participation in the Olympic Games in London.

The meeting turned out to be really lively and interesting. The cadets wished Ekaterina victories at future competitions, and the athlete, in turn, thanked for the invitation and noted the uniqueness of the Avangard center.
